Gamepad guide
DeckCrate is designed to be 100% navigable with a game controller. This page explains the model; the full reference has every binding.
Triggers are modifiers
Section titled “Triggers are modifiers”The controller uses its triggers as modifier keys, much like Ctrl and Shift on a keyboard:
- Hold LT → file operations (copy, cut, paste, trash, page up/down)
- Hold RT → selection (mark, select all, clear)
The on-screen hint bar follows along: holding LT or RT reveals that trigger’s chords, so you never have to memorize them.
Moving and panes
Section titled “Moving and panes”- D-pad / left stick move the selection.
- Left / Right cross between the sidebar, the file pane, and the preview pane.
- A opens / enters / previews; B goes back or closes the preview.
With the sidebar focused, Up / Down move through Places and Devices, A opens the highlighted shortcut, and X ejects a highlighted device (or removes a highlighted bookmark — the hint bar shows which).
The command menu (Start)
Section titled “The command menu (Start)”Start opens a command menu listing every action. It’s the only place to reach some actions from a pad — delete permanently, new folder, new file, properties, open file with…, send to, paste link, undo / redo, the Tools submenu (open terminal here, git pull / push, disk usage), and the Language switcher.
Tabs, sort, and the manager
Section titled “Tabs, sort, and the manager”- LB / RB cycle between tabs.
- R3 (right-stick click) opens the sort menu; L3 refreshes.
- View opens the Operations & Preferences manager. Holding View turns the triggers into zoom controls.
